Ectober Week 2015 - Masks/Costumes
Nov. 26th, 2018 06:44 pmA crosspost from Tumblr. Written in October 2015 for the Danny Phantom Ectober event.
Children sometimes struggle to differentiate fantasy and reality. Adults sometimes forget this. The parents had some sense, certainly. They knew their son and disallowed the Superman costume: he might try flying. But they didn’t think through what they did allow.
The boy adored his new firefighter costume. He felt like a hero. Like a real firefighter. He couldn’t find a fire, though. So by children’s logic, he needed to make one. But a fire once started is not easy to control. The results, while tragic, were predictable.
The parents were devastated. As for the boy, he played dress-up for eternity.
